Hanoi’s Historic Heart Gets a Major Upgrade
Hanoi is building a landmark 2.14-hectare public square and park on the eastern shore of Hoan Kiem Lake — one of the most ambitious urban transformation projects the capital has undertaken in decades. With a total investment exceeding VND 2,840 billion (approximately USD 113 million), the project will create a stunning new civic space that connects Hanoi’s cultural heritage with modern urban infrastructure.
What’s Being Built
The project spans the area bordered by Hoan Kiem Lake and Dinh Tien Hoang Street to the west, Ly Thai To Street to the east, and Tran Nguyen Han Street to the south. It’s being built in two phases:
Phase 1: Surface Transformation
- Site clearance of over 21,000 sq.m affecting 59 organizations and households
- New open-air square and landscaped park
- Upgraded infrastructure: water supply, drainage, lighting
- Urban amenities including stone benches, restrooms, Wi-Fi, and security cameras
Phase 2: Underground Connection
- Three-level underground space beneath the square
- Direct connection to the C9 metro station on the Nam Thang Long–Tran Hung Dao line
- Seamless integration with Hanoi’s expanding urban rail network
Why Dental Tourists Should Be Excited
The Hoan Kiem Lake area is the beating heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter — the same neighborhood where many of the city’s top dental clinics are located. This project brings several benefits for dental tourists:
Better Walkability
The new pedestrian-friendly square replaces congested buildings with open space, making it easier and more pleasant to walk between your hotel, dental clinic, and Hanoi’s famous attractions.
Metro Access
Once the C9 metro station opens, dental tourists will have direct rail access to the Old Quarter area from Noi Bai Airport direction and other parts of the city — no more navigating traffic in a taxi after your procedure.
Recovery-Friendly Environment
Imagine recovering from veneers or a dental cleaning while strolling through a beautifully landscaped lakeside park. The new square will host cultural events, exhibitions, and artistic performances — all within walking distance of your clinic.
